The UK’s best restaurant
Moor Hall Restaurant
Two Michelin starred Moor Hall, in Aughton, Lancashire, is one of the UK’s most important listed buildings and has been given a new lease of life. Dating from the mid-sixteenth century, this grade II* listed house is home to the restaurant of award winning chef, Mark Birchall. Within a year the restaurant received its first Michelin star and a second the following year. Recently Moor Hall has been crowned the best restaurant in the UK.
What I did
Branding / Guidelines / Art direction / Typeface design / Menus / Wine lists / Signage

Referenced on the building and also carved into a tree in the grounds was a stag, which was also on the coat of arms for the area, and so it seemed only natural that this should appear in the logo. The type design was inspired by the original Tudor wall patterns uncovered during the restoration.

After only two years in business Moor Hall in Lancashire achieved, not one but, two Michelin stars and was crowned best restaurant in the UK at the National Restaurant Awards 2019.

The new logo and typeface features throughout the building in many different formats – from a wax seal on your menu to bespoke brass signage on the restaurant's bedrooms.

Mark likes his food to look natural and organic and commissioned bespoke tableware to complement this. For the stationery, menus and wine list we used paper that was made from hops that were left over from a beer making process.
